Marty Siefert
Marty Seifert was raised on a small family farm near Clements, Minnesota. The youngest of six boys, he moved to Marshall to attend Southwest State University and graduated with a degree in Political Science with a secondary teaching license. He taught Social Studies at Marshall Senior High School and in his third year there, was elected to represent parts of Lyon Redwood and Yellow Medicine Counites in the Minnesota House of Representatives where he served seven terms. During that time, he was Majority Whip, Minority Leader and Chaired the State Government Finance Committee. He ran for Governor of Minnesota in 2010 and 2014. After leaving elective office, he obtained his real estate license, complementing his starting and owning Seifert Properties, specializing in rental properties of single family homes. He was hired as the Foundation Director at Avera Marshall and was leader of the fundraising campaign to build the Avera Cancer Center in Marshall. He joined the Board of Governors at Granite Falls Energy, an ethanol plant in Granite Falls and the Board of Directors at Catholic United Financial, a life and annuity company that recently announced a merger with Catholic Life of Wisconsin. He continues to own Seifert Properties, LLC and also owns Battle Creek Retreat, an Airbnb property in St. Paul.
In 2016, his book “Sundown at Sunrise” was released. The book meshes historical fiction with a true story of an area farmer who ax murders his wife and four children, while covering unique history of southwestern Minnesota from 1909 to the murders in 1917. The book hit the best seller category on Amazon True Crime in 2017. He’s done over 100 book presentations to libraries, historical societies and other groups while bridging into the Audible and e-book markets, selling almost 20,000 books since its release.
Marty joined the legal and lobbying firm of Flaherty & Hood, P.A. in December, 2014 where he has worked as a Senior Government Relations Officer for almost 10 years, representing rural cities and a variety of clients at the legislature.
He enjoys collecting antique cars, tractors and farm machinery, travel, visiting with family and friends. He lives in Marshall with his wife Traci and is the father of two grown college age adults.
We hope to see you there!
