Job Description

The Technology Resource Center Manager is responsible for directing the daily operations of the Technology Resource Center (TRC).  The TRC is SMSU Information Technology Service’s (SMSU ITS) service desk.  As the SMSU ITS service desk, the TRC is the location for initial information technology service and support requests and it handles inquiries regarding SMSU ITS services from the University community.  The TRC Manager supervises a team of student workers that provide direct support for all members of the University community.  In this role, the TRC Manager coordinates the escalation of support requests and needs to other full-time SMSU ITS staff as appropriate.  The TRC Manager also provides lead technical support for specialized services and computer workstations in use on campus.  These services include such services as enterprise content management systems, wireless display systems, and supporting workstations used for such services as financial transactions, public safety, and other unique business processes. The TRC Manager is also a critical member of SMSU ITS’s Client Services team which provides research, training, and consultation on the use of technology services for the University community. This position is essential to Information Technology Service’s mission of providing a wide spectrum of quality information technology services and support for the University.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of current experience providing information technology support services including experience with troubleshooting and resolving computer workstation performance issues.

  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems and experience with a wide array of technology tools and software applications such as Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and Internet browsers; necessary to support effective utilization by the University community.

  • Applied experience with information technology service desk or help desk software packages sufficient to enable effective utilization of SMSU ITS’s service desk software solution.

  • Experience with managing student workers or leading a group of co-workers on a task(s) and budgeting that is sufficient to enable effective leadership and management of a large team of student workers.

  • Familiarity with programming/scripting languages sufficient to support the implementation of automated tools that support TRC activities including computer workstation deployment and inventory tracking.

  • Ability to move materials and equipment is from locations across campus.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with information technology support services in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with both PC and Macintosh operating systems.

  • Applied experience implementing security patches and standards on computer workstations.

  • Writing and presentation skills and experience sufficient to support effective training sessions on technology topics to be provided to a range of clientele.
